The .com Price Increase on November 1, 2026: What Changes and What You Can Do
On November 1, 2026, Verisign, the company that runs the .com registry, raises its wholesale price for a .com name from $10.26 to $10.97 a year. That is 71 cents, or 6.9 percent. Verisign announced it with its first-quarter results on April 23, 2026.
The wholesale price is what a registrar pays the registry for each year of each name. It is not the price you pay. Your registrar sets that, and it decides whether to pass the increase on, when, and by how much.
What .com costs today
We log list prices at registrars that publish them through a public API. On October 16, 2026:
| Registrar | First year | Renewal |
|---|---|---|
| Porkbun | $11.08 | $11.08 |
| OVHcloud (US dollar prices) | $9.20 | $16.49 |
These are two registrars, not the market. They show how different retail prices can be over the same wholesale price. One charges $11.08 every year. The other sells the first year for less than the wholesale price and renews at $16.49.
OVHcloud raised its own .com renewal price from $14.69 to $16.49 on October 15, more than two weeks before Verisign's change takes effect. That was OVHcloud's decision about its retail price: the wholesale price is still $10.26 until November 1. Its first-year price did not change.
What you can do before November 1
- Renew the names you plan to keep. A renewal paid before the change is billed at what your registrar charges today. A .com can be registered for up to ten years in total, so you can add several years at once. The .com Registry Agreement (Section 7.3(f)) requires the registry to keep offering terms of up to ten years at the price in effect when the order is placed.
- Work out whether it is worth it. If your registrar passes on the full 71 cents, adding five years to one .com now saves about $3.55, and adding nine years saves about $6.39. For one name that is small. For 200 names it is $710 to $1,278. Paying years ahead also ties up money, so it only makes sense for names you are sure about.
- Look at the following years too. The same agreement lets Verisign raise the .com price by up to 7 percent in each of the next three pricing years as well. Whether it will is not known. Years you have already paid for are not affected by later increases.
- Check your registrar's renewal price now, and again in November. Then you will know what was passed on.
What about .net?
.net is also run by Verisign. Its wholesale price rises from $10.91 to $12.00 a year on March 1, 2027. Verisign announced that in a filing on August 27, 2026. The same approach applies: a renewal paid before that date is billed at the current price.
We are logging what registrars do
Since October 10 we check .com and .net prices every day and record each change in an open file on GitHub. After November 1 we will publish what moved and on which day. The current figures are on the .com renewal price page, where you can also ask for an email when prices change.
